Cleaning Shortcuts

Two-Timing
Make double use of your time -- straighten the coat closet while waiting for the car pool; clean kitchen counters while talking on the telephone.

A Family Affair
Set aside at least two hours once or twice a week for cleaning. Write down all necessary tasks on slips of paper and put them in bowl according to difficulty. Every family member chooses from the appropriate bowl. Enforce the rule that everyone helps with some cleaning task during that time.

Spill Savvy
Wipe up spills as soon as possible. The sooner you clean up, the easier it is to remove stains completely.

Minimize Spring Cleaning
  • Clean as needed.
  • Systematic, regular cleaning minimizes the need for heavy-duty seasonal cleaning.

A little late but better then never. You girls need to stop making "men" an all inclusive. For myself I know that I contribute to the cleaning by doing laundry, dishes, bathrooms, windows, vacuuming, dusting, picking up. Plus yard chores, automotive upkeep, making school lunches for the kids, cooking and bring home the bacon $$$. Last but not least, I don't pee on the seat, the floor, the wall or the cabinets. You'll say, what does my wife do? All the same. It's called sharing responsibility. The kids are also part of the equation.
Sit down and talk with your "man" about this and if he has any of those, you know, roundish things in a sack between his legs he'll step up to the plate and not just at the dinner table.
A happy marriage is not going to just happen, you have to do the work and that includes everything.

Every Saturday, after a full weeks work getting paid, is dedicated to catching up on housework only to have it look the same way by the evening as it did that morning. I have 4 kids, 2 left home and one grandchild in the house so its clean but looks lived in, if you want spotless don't have kids, animals, husbands and stay in your plastic bubble

Why should we keep a spotless house when the next day it is back same way, dirty. Kids and hubby don't think what we do is work, yeah right. Let them stay home for a week and deal with all the things that goes on with kids and being a housewife.

I'm left wondering why I even read this. What a waste of time when I could have been cleaning up the coffee spill on the counter!

Write down all necessary tasks and put them in a bowl. Bwahahaha, done that, been there, wound up with another thing to clean, like what a priority, clean the cleaning list bowl. And at my time of life the kids have grown and thankfully flown, one great shortcut to cleaning, get the little bastards out of the house asap, result house stays cleaner......So two hours a week dedicated to cleaning, what are they talking? A studio apartment? Maybe a one bedroom.
So tell us, where are those so called cleaning shortcuts or tricks mentioned in the headline? Clean up spills right away-duuuuh>>>>>>>>>>

Why do so many of you think this article is sexist? It was written by Carolyn Forte for GOOD HOUSEKEEPING (you know the magazine). Do alot of men buy this magazine? Is it 50/50 on the gender that primarily buys this magazine? Or is atleast 70/30? Ummm, no, woman seem to be the main consumer for this magazine, and there for it is geared toward women who read it. Women who read it, read it for the articles, ads, and tips on HOUSE KEEPING. (hence the clever name)

Other then the picture, what else about the article implies women are the only ones that should clean. I believe it specifically says to enlist help from family members.

This article was just a feature from Good Houskeeping that AOL used to fill up space.

it's always a joy to clean house! ha haha ha ha
anyway, when you are the only female in the house you
tend to be the only one that does the cleaning.
