Shabby Chic Files for Bankruptcy

Shabby Chic, the 20-year-old company with a flea market aesthetic, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

In a blog posting, founder and face of the company Rachel Ashwell wrote, "Business has been hard for a while, but the notion that my beloved company would become as broken as it has was never a consideration for me."

She blamed the company's problems on rapid expansion (10 new stores over the past few years) but pledged, "What this means to me is an opportunity to try to restructure and save Shabby Chic. ...Every minute of every day is being spent making Shabby Chic strong again."

Target could not comment on how long the "Simply Shabby Chic" items in their stores will remain on sale.

ARM YOURSELVES PEOPLE. BUY GUNS AND STORE YOUR MONEY SAFELY IN YOUR POSSESSION. THE BANKS ARE GOING TO TAKE YOUR MONEY WITH OBAMAS BLESSING. HE IS A BOUGHT NEGRO BY THE BANKING AND AUTO AND UNIONS BUSINESSES. HE OWES EVERYBODY SOMETHING FOR GETTING HIM ELECTED. HE DID IT FOR HIMSELF, NOT FOR WE THE PEOPLE

YOU WILL LOSE YOUR JOB, STORES WILL CLOSE, ETC. THE ECONOMY WILL IMPLODE, WHICH IS WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW. ARE YOU AN IDIOT OR A MORON?

I think Shabby Chic jumped the shark sometime during the Bush administration. It was one of those fad stores that people found charming but not some place to go to time and again after the first few visits. I'm sure Rachel Ashwell will be able to go back to the drawing board and find something new and kitchy to sell. Look how many times Donald Trump has reincarnated himself. Not all brands or stores will survive the various change in trends and consumer attitude. Maybe people just want to buy stuff that looks new, not handed down from grandma!

Ostentatious money is soon all gone.

DuroF1. I wonder if you look as dumb as you sound. The free market was good enough for this country since its fouunding. It created a wealhty and prosperous nation unprecedented in the history of the world. The fact that recessions happen will only make us stronger unless the dems and morons like you fundamentally change our system to one more like Cuba or Estonia or Latvia or Bulgaria or Russia or China or any other country where their quality of life has been better then here. You are a defeatist not a patriot..

I went to their web site and was floored by their prices. I hate to see any small business fold, but in this economy, who can afford a thousand dollar mirror or a $175 throw pillow for their sofa?

Wake up people. The world is already deep into a DEPRESSION. The talking heads who say otherwise are just trying to keep their jobs.
