Singer/songwriter Jewel and her husband, rodeo star and professional bull rider Ty Murray, have a lifestyle as unlike Hollywood as possible -- and that's the way they like it. Nestled on their Texas ranch, which has a river, a 230-acre lake and nine ponds, it's hard to imagine why they'd ever want to leave. But they've done just that and headed to LA, where Ty is competing on ABC's Dancing With the Stars.
The pair was set to be the first married couple to compete on the show, but then Jewel fractured her leg during rehearsals. "After my MRI, my doctor told me, 'You can't dance -- or walk,'" says Jewel, who was extremely disappointed but hopes to dance on the show another season. For now, she's focused on supporting her husband. "I've got my fans to vote for him," she tells In Touch. "And maybe I could sing for him while he dances!"

Nestled on their Texas ranch, which has a river, a 230-acre lake and nine ponds, it's hard to imagine why they'd ever want to leave. But for the next few months they'll do just that, as they head to LA, where Ty will compete on ABC's Dancing With the Stars. Ty's favorite room "This living room is comfortable and not too stuffy," says Ty. "I can walk in with my boots and spurs on and not ruin anything!" Jewel says, "I'm happy to let Ty style a lot of the elements. He's very Western and he's won a lot of trophies, so he has a lot of bronze. We like things that are nostalgic and old-timey."
Moving Up's Doug Wilson weighs in: "In Texas, where there's so much open space and everything's so big, an intimate-feeling room becomes a comfort zone. Warm neutrals -- browns and bronzes with sensual fabrics -- can give a space a soft edge."

Bedroom charm "I love fabric," admits Jewel, here in the master bedroom with Ty. "But I've seen women completely take over a house to where it doesn't look like there's a man living there. I didn't want to do that." She adds, "Ty and I really want to start a family. We got married in August, and our plan is to have a couple of kids."
Doug Wilson weighs in: "A headboard helps define a bedroom -- a modern look often does without one altogether. But for an easy do-it-yourself project, you can build your own headboard frame, then tack on foam and cover it with fabric. Or you can hang a huge poster behind the bed."

Jewel's favorite place "I really think that the kitchen is the heart of the home, and when I remodeled this house I wanted the kitchen to be open so it relates to the living room," Jewel says. "I have concrete countertops and handmade cabinets. My island is one piece of stone from Brazil," she adds.

Mixing styles "Our decorating theme is to combine a lot of styles. It's mixing natural elements, like stone and wood, and bringing them inside with a refined touch," Jewel tells In Touch. "As long as things are functional, Ty is fine with it."
