The Headdress Affair


"Tulips & Pansies: The Headdress Affair" is an event that brings together top fashion and floral designers for a full-scale runway show where the flowers are the stars. Each headdress is made entirely of living plants and fresh-cut flowers.

    The event brings together top fashion and floral designers for a full-scale runway show where the flowers are the stars. Each headdress is made entirely of living plants and fresh-cut flowers. All proceeds went to benefit Village Care of New York, a non-profit that helps people living with HIV/AIDS.

    b. michael's Pique' Floral Gown is topped off with clouds of white hydrangea, vendela roses and wisps of springeri evoke Cecile Beaton's love of Edwardian hats and his fondness for a rare day in June.

    L'Olivier's headdress is inspired by Michael Vollbracht's 1980's African sheath designed for IMAN in 1980. Using brown raffia, the piece creates a dramatic hairstyle adorned with a floral element composed of individual flowers.

    Crowning Zang Toi's stunning dress, this headpiece is a fantasy bird's nest created from curly willow together with sweet peas, tulips, peonies, roses, cymbidium and phalaenopsis orchids, and accented with pheasant feathers. Attracted to the nest is a vision of magical butterflies.
