Perhaps the MOST important part of the install not mentioned is to TURN OFF the heating/cooling equipment before changing the T-Stat. You risk toasting a transformer, or circuit board during the installation if you don't kill the power to the thermostat first.Usually the "emergency switch" to the unit will do this. You should also check for the presence of power @ the t-stat wires before you go at it.The gentleman who changed his line voltage (115V.) unit was a lucky fellow as if he did not shut off the power it could have been worse than a fire. Shocking in fact.

Be aware of your system's thermostat voltage requirement! We live in a highrise condo and the thermostat voltage is 110 Volts while most single family homes use low voltage. A new co-owner recently moved in and replaced the existing thermostat unwittingly with a low voltage one from the local chain hardware store, resulting in expensive fire damage to the apartment.

You will not save money using the LUX thermostat in demo. you will be replacing it shortly after install. A good thermostat will cost around $70.00.

Most if not all thermostats need some sort of battery. Make sure you insert the battery before putting the face plate back on.
