    Candace Bushnell's Living Room

In Candace Bushnell's Greenwich Village, New York, apartment, a hot-pink, 19th-century Venetian chaise longue adds a dose of drama to a corner of the living room; the vintage gold-leafed sheaf sconce is one of a pair flanking the mantel, which is original to the apartment.

    William Waldron

    Amy Fine Collins' Office/Dressing Room

In Amy Fine Collins' Park Avenue, New York, apartment, her office/dressing room features a Louis XV style desk that once belonged to Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. The desk chair is an Austrian Biedermeier design, with a seat upholstered in vintage leopard skin. A gallery of portraits of Collins by Karl Lagerfeld, Victor Skrebneski, Gene Meyer, and others is displayed on the wall.

    Delphine and Reed Krakoff's Poolhouse

Delphine and Reed Krakoff's Southampton, New York, poolhouse is furnished with a custom-made canvas-and-pearwood bench by Hermès, a 1950s sofa, and Tord Boontje's Blossom chandelier for Swarovski; the 1930s Serge Roche plaster torchères were purchased at auction.

    Muriel Brandolini's Bathroom

In Muriel Brandolini's townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, fabrics she designed layer the walls and ceiling of the master bath. A mirrored wainscot visually increases the size of the small space, and above it all hangs a baroque-style shell chandelier made by Claire Cormier-Fauvel.

    Pieter Estersohn

Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor's Terrace

The terrace of Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor's house in the Hollywood Hills, which was designed by Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch of Roman and Williams, features Mission-influenced furniture and a Moroccan light.

    Grey Crawford

Mark Badgley and James Mischka's Living Room

In the living room of Mark Badgley and James Mischka's Manhattan duplex, nylon used for raincoats upholsters the side chairs; the sofa is covered in vinyl. Silver accessories keep the atmosphere festive round the clock.

    William Waldron

    Giambattista Valli's Bedroom

The bedroom in Giambattista Valli's pied-à-terre in Rome features 19th-century Indonesian carved-wood doors that serve as an atmospheric headboard. The watercolor is by Alberto Pasini.

    Henry Bourne

    Sarah Jessica Parker's Dining Room

In the dining room of Sarah Jessica Parker's Bridgehampton, New York, weekend house, vintage chairs painted in Benjamin Moore's black Regal Matte are gathered around an Eric Hughesdesigned table. The Egyptian chandelier was found at a local antiques shop.

    William Waldron

Ranjana and Naeem Khan's Living Area

In Ranjana and Naeem Khan's SoHo, Manhattan, loft, a low-slung velvet sofa by Minotti and an overscale tufted-leather ottoman by De Padova give the living area a loungelike feel.

Margaret Russell and the editors of ELLE DECOR have released a new design book, So Chic; together they explore the nuances of high style through the lives and interiors of the world's most celebrated tastemakers. "What exactly is chic?" Russell muses in her foreword. "A chic space can be razzle-dazzle glamorous or quietly unpretentious, seriously sophisticated or unapologetically bohemian. The unifying thread is indisputably confidence, no doubt boosted by splashes of joie de vivre and flair." It's this beautifully broad spectrum of taste that draws the reader in. "For me, the most fascinating rooms are adventurous and unpredictable; I like to be surprised," she says. Each home, from the regal Milan duplex of Donatella Versace to the rustic Montauk retreat of Ralph Lauren, takes on a highly personal style, and each page inspires a fearlessness to decorate.
